Hacoa Black Walnut iPhone 4 case
out of stockFinally uploaded, this beauty of a wooden iPhone 4 case.
Yes, while a number of wood-like iPhone cases circulate the web, none come close to this version.
This version is not an adhesive of laminated paper with a wood print or wood veneer, nor is it a case made of small bits of wood (veneer) assembled on a iPhone case mold.
This is the real deal. An iPhone case made of – here goes – one piece of solid black walnut. Crazy.
The case snaps on like a synthetic iPhone case, ensuring a snugly fit. To me, in a way it feels atypical to have such a ‘warm’ material covering an electronic device. It feels smooth and soft, such a nice contradiction to the cold and hard electronics it shields.
What I particularly like about it, is the technique behind it. As wood is known ‘to work’ in relation to its environment (humidity or dry air) the craftmen thought about that too. On the inside curved lines are laser cut into it. These laser cut lines is not merely an outing of Japanese aesthetics, but more of superb technology: when your wooden case becomes too loose for your iPhone, a drop of water in those curved lines will result in a renewed fit. Like when washing your denim.
Important notice: These Black Walnut got out of stock like crazy. We have re-ordered in Japan, and are lucky and happy we are on the waiting list for a new batch. We expect them in our warehouse around February. Sometimes there is no choice but await patiently…
